For the second year, the “Of One Soul” project of the Interfaith Council of Sonoma County is sponsoring an interfaith day of fasting and kindness to mark the month of Ramadan.
This day is an opportunity for people of faith and people of conscience to come together under the simple banner of kindness. Consider it a sort of “kindness lab”. What would our world be like if selflessness and compassion were our organizing principles? Instead of just imagining it, we will spend a day embodying it.
Participants are invited to volunteer in the community with Of One Soul (we will be serving lunch at St. Vincent’s in Santa Rosa), or to do projects on their own or with their congregations.
Community members are also invited to fast from dawn until dark, or as much of that time as they are able. This is in solidarity with our Muslim neighbors, and also to experience the spiritual practice of transcending the body’s needs for the purpose of feeding the spirit.
At the end of the day, we will break fast together at a festive meal (self-pay) at King Falafel, 100 Brown Street in Sebastopol.
To help planning, we encourage those who are interested to RSVP to volunteer or to attend the dinner. RSVP by clicking here.
In addition, updates on volunteer opportunities, ideas, reflections and teachings on Ramadan can be found on our Facebook event.
