Taught by Reb Irwin
Yiddish Tish returns, exploring Yiddish literature and culture. No previous Yiddish knowledge required.
This session we look at and listen to songs from the current Broadway production of Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish. We will look at how the Yiddish translation differs from the original Sheldon Harnick lyrics, and also from the 1970 Yiddish production, and what those differences say about the cultural and religious expectations of a Yiddish-speaking audience.
