The late Leonard Wolf was a poet, translator and critic; author of 27 books. He figured in the Berkeley Renaissance of the 1940s and 1950s, and was for 20 years a professor of English at San Francisco State University. He is especially known for his skillful English translations of Yiddish poetry, and his charming Yiddish rendering of A.A. Milne’s Vini-der-Pu. He was also the father of feminist writer Naomi Wolf. Read his recent obituary here.
At today’s Yiddish Tish led by Reb Irwin, we will read some of his English translations and excerpts from Vini-der-Pu. Joining us to talk about his life and legacy will be his sister-in-law, Ner Shalomer Reb Judith Goleman.
