Community Security: Making Smart Choices in Bad Situations

  • Ner Shalom 85 La Plaza Cotati, CA, 94931 United States (map)

In-person training for the entire Jewish community

with Rafael Brinner, JCF Director of Community Security and Stuart Frisch, National Training and Exercise Advisor for the Secure Community Network (SCN).

During this time of rising hate and political division, cultivating an environment where all members and community partners feel safe coming together and participating in communal life is essential. The Federation’s Community Security Program, supported by donations to our Annual Campaign, is the leader in helping to keep our Bay Area Jewish community safe.

Intended for all community members and organizations, this training is about making good decisions under stress. It will cover handling interactions with unknown persons (applicable to greeters, receptionists, or navigating situations with strangers outside these contexts) and countering active threats (run-hide-fight).

One of the speakers, Stuart Frisch, from the Secure Community Network, provided the training to Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas, that Rabbi Charlie Cytron-Walker credited with enabling him and his congregants to escape from a hostage situation. Learn how to be prepared by adopting best practices when responding to threats.
