The Golden Gate Symphony Orchestra & Chorus, in collaboration with Holocaust Music Lost & Found, and Citizen Film, will offer a special event called Songs of Truth: Holocaust Awareness Concert & Conversation Project. This remarkable musical event is co-sponsored by Congregation Ner Shalom, the Sonoma County Yom Hashoah Committee, and the Alliance for the Study of the Holocaust and Genocide at Sonoma State University.
Join us in paying tribute to the exceptional talent and resilience of Jewish composers who continued to create music while imprisoned during the Holocaust. The project showcases the works and humanity of highly accomplished, little known composers such as Hans Krása, Pavel Haas, Ilse Weber, and Elsa Barraine, all of whom perished in Nazi concentration camps.
The Songs of Truth project provides a unique window into learning about the Holocaust through music, while inspiring audiences to reflect on, recognize, and resist the rise of antisemitism today. We offer Songs of Truth to our diverse audiences as a way to stand together as allies with the Jewish community against hatred and intolerance.
This event is free, but registration is required.
