This month: furthering our recent interest in the art of translation, our own beloved Marcia Falk will be at the center of our session, giving over and talking about some of the translations she did of poems by Malka Heifetz Tussman.
Marcia is a prolific poet, translator, and scholar. She is arguably best known for The Book of Blessings, although it is her poetic translation of Song of Songs that I most often find myself reaching for on the shelf. In 1992 she published With Teeth in the Earth, a book of English translations of the poetry of Malka Heifetz Tussman (you might remember we read Malka’s poem “The Last Apple” last year around Tu Bishvat). Marcia created her translations while in conversation and relationship with the poet. So we can look forward to hearing what that experience was like.
You can find the five short poems, with Marcia’s translations, by clicking here.
It will be a fun and beautiful session, and honor to have this time with Marcia sharing her work and her memories of a living Yiddish poet.
